Admission to Ferris

Ferris University accepts applications for admission in autumn through winter. Ferris uses both written and oral entrance examinations to select students with the best qualifications to continue their academic career at university level. New students are only admitted in April, ahead of the start of the academic year. Undergraduate courses require four years of enrollment.

Application Procedure

Application forms are available on the University’s website from July. Please note carefully the dates of the various entrance examinations, admission requirements, and tuition include other fees. Applications must be submitted on time and with all necessary supporting documents. We recommend checking for updates before submitting your application.

Eligibility Criteria

The University accepts applications from female students who meet one of the following criteria:
(1) Graduation from an accredited high school or secondary school in Japan.
(2) Completion of 12 years of regular education.
(3) Completion of 12 years of education, or its equivalent, in a foreign country. (Attestation from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is required.)
(4) Completion of education at a Japanese school in a foreign country, which is attested to as equivalent to the schools described in (1) above.
(5) Certification by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of having intellectual training equivalent to applicants in (1) to (4) above.
(6) Passing grade in the Upper Secondary School Equivalency Examination given by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
(7) Certification by Ferris University of having intellectual training equivalent to applicants in (1) to (6) above.

〈International Students〉
Ferris University accepts applications from female students from other countries who fulfill one of the following requirements:
(1) Completion of 12 years of education in a foreign country and being qualified to enter a university in that country.
(2) Holding an International Baccalaureate Diploma and being 18 years of age or older.
Applicants are also required to take the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) or the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).

〈Students Returning from Abroad (Returnees)〉
Ferris University accepts applications from Japanese students who have been educated in foreign countries. A detailed explanation of the admission requirements is available from the Admissions Office. Application forms are available on the University’s website from July. Applications are accepted in September.

〈Mature Students〉
Ferris University accepts applications from candidates who have worked for three or more years and who are aged 23 years or older. A detailed explanation of the admission requirements is available from the Admissions Office. Application forms are available on the University’s website from July. Applications are accepted in September.

〈Admissions to the Second and Third Year〉
Ferris University accepts applications from currently enrolled university students who wish to transfer into second year of either the Faculty of Global and Intercultural Studies or the Department of Japanese Language and Literature in the Faculty of Letters. We also accept applications from candidates wishing to transfer into the third year of the Faculty of the Letters, the Faculty of Global and Intercultural Studies, and the College of Music. Applications are accepted in October.
